AT&T lights up 1 Gig service in Cupertino, Calif.

AT&T (NYSE: T) has named Cupertino, Calif., as the latest destination that will get its emerging 1 Gbps fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service U-verse with GigaPower.

Set to be available in parts of the city, qualifying residential and business customers will be able to choose from a number of plans, including single, double and triple-play bundles.

With the standalone high speed Internet Premier Tier, customers have a choice of getting Internet speeds of up to 1 Gbps for $110 a month or 300 Mbps for $80 a month. For those customers that want a double play, the U-verse High Speed Internet Premier + TV is available with either 1 Gbps and qualifying TV service starting for $150 a month, or speeds at 300 Mbps and qualifying TV service as low as $120 a month.

Finally, the U-verse High Speed Internet Premier + TV + Voice triple play bundle offers up to 1 Gbps of Internet speeds with a qualifying TV service and Unlimited U-verse Voice starting as low as $180 a month, or speeds at 300 Mbps with qualifying TV service and Unlimited U-verse Voice for $150 a month.

The standalone Internet and U-verse High Speed Internet Premier + TV tiers both have a one-year price guarantee. Alternatively, the triple-play offer comes with a two-year price guarantee.

However, the service provider has not revealed what specific parts of Cupertino will be able to get the service.

Meanwhile, AT&T continues to make progress in expanding its 1 Gbps service to new communities.

Today, the service is available to consumer and small businesses across segments of Austin, Cupertino, Dallas, Fort Worth, Kansas City, Raleigh-Durham and Winston-Salem markets. AT&T has also announced plans to deliver AT&T GigaPower in parts of 10 additional markets--Atlanta; Charlotte and Greensboro, N.C.; Chicago; Houston; Jacksonville, Fla.; Miami; Nashville, Tenn.; St. Louis and San Antonio.

While delivering 1 Gbps service is a key priority for AT&T on its wireline broadband business, the service provider continues to ramp up its traditional U-verse service by expanding its 75 Mbps tier in the Houston market for residential and small to medium business (SMB) customers. The launch in Houston comes after it said it would bring the 75 Mbps tier to an additional six markets earlier this month, making it available in a total of 18 cities in its service footprint.
