AT&T to provide TWC SportsNet and Deportes to U-verse subs in Calif.
By adding these channels to its lineup, AT&T will be able to tap into this market's desire for content related to the Los Angeles Lakers, LA Galaxy and Los Angeles Sparks games in addition to specific programming related to each of these teams.
Current U-verse customers who subscribe to the U100 package, particularly those who reside in Los Angeles, San Diego, Bakersfield and a large part of Fresno, will be able to access Time Warner Cable SportsNet on channel 1777 in HD and channel 777 in SD. Time Warner Cable Deportes will be available in the U300 package or U-Latino package on channel 1778 in HD and channel 778 in SD.
"Many of our customers are passionate about Los Angeles sports, and we're pleased to be able to deliver the content they want," said Jeff Weber, President of Content and Advertising Sales, AT&T Home Solutions, in a release about the new content lineup.
Augmenting the traditional lineup of live games, Time Warner Cable SportsNet features "Access SportsNet," the network's signature daily studio show that encompasses pre- and post-game shows as "Access SportsNet: Lakers" and "Access SportsNet: Galaxy" as well as "#LakeShow," the network's live daily social media-driven show.
Spanish language customers leveraging Time Warner Cable Deportes will be able to access various programs, including the "Lakers En Vivo" pre-game show and "Somos Lakers" post-game show, as well as "Somos Lakers éné-bé-a," a weekly show dedicated to the latest on the Lakers and the NBA that will include highlights, live interviews, commentary and other special segments.
Being able to provide content relevant to this particular area of California comes at a time when U-verse has become one of the telco's key revenue drivers in its wireline portfolio.
In Q3 2012, AT&T reported that IP-based consumer and business services drove up their wireline revenue by two percent. During the quarter, it added added almost 200,000 new U-verse TV subscribers and 613,000 new broadband Internet subscribers.
