AT&T recruits 100 technicians to build out U-verse in Kansas

As AT&T (NYSE: T) expands its U-verse service throughout Kansas, the service provider will hire about 100 new technicians with a focus on Kansas City, Kan.

Following a similar hiring drive in Wisconsin earlier this month, the hiring drive in Kansas City appears to represent AT&T's move to expand U-verse in its Midwest territories.

Steve Hahn, AT&T's Kansas president, said the state, which is home to aggressive cable operators such as Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC), was a growth area for the company.

"Kansas is a growth story for AT&T," Hahn said in a news release. "We are investing in areas of growth."

Outside of Kansas, AT&T has beefed up its U-verse technician workforce in Atlanta, San Francisco and Connecticut.

U-verse continues to be a saving grace for AT&T's wireline segment, one where it's seeing continual losses from traditional PSTN business. During the second quarter, AT&T added 202,000 U-verse subscribers to reach 3.4 million in service.
