AT&T responds to Nevada's low cost telecom needs

When the state of Nevada went out looking for its telecom service needs, it had one thing on its mind: how can the provider we pick save us money? Well, Nevada found that answer in AT&T (NYSE: T), which will provide the state with a set of telecom services (network and security, VPN and Managed Internet Services) under a four-year, $12 million contract.

As the primary telecom provider to northern Nevada, AT&T's new contract will provide cost efficiencies to the northern part of the state on their existing communications services. These cost efficiencies will then be extended to cities, counties and K-12 and colleges.

At a time when all states are trying to do more with less money, a critical piece of the contract is to provide emerging technology products that are focused on increasing productivity and streamlining online applications.

"We chose to award all existing and new business in Northern Nevada to AT&T because AT&T stepped up and answered the challenge to reduce costs. Once again AT&T continued to meet and exceed our expectations," said Greg Smith, Administrator for the State of Nevada Purchasing Division in a release.
