AT&T, Verizon, Sprint gear up for national conventions in red-hot election

It's election season, and as the two leading candidates gear up for their parties' respective national conventions, wireless providers including AT&T and Verizon are prepping for two events that are suddenly much more high-profile than they may have anticipated several months ago.

Still, the carriers are preparing for "the maximum scenario" when it comes to network traffic. Both have plenty of mega-events under their belt, such as the Super Bowl, the Pope's visit, and Coachella. Verizon says the system it installed at the Wells Fargo Center, the main venue for the Democratic National Convention, will improve capacity by 550 percent.
