AT&T wins multi-site Ethernet, unified communications deal with SCHOTT

AT&T (NYSE: T) has put another multi-site business contract into its win column by securing an $8 million deal to provide SCHOTT AG network connectivity to all of its production plants, data centers and corporate offices.

What this network connection will enable for SCHOTT is faster file transfer throughout its 35 country locations. In addition to its headquarters in Mainz, Germany, SCHOTT has a development center in Duryea, Pa., and offices in Asia, North America and Europe.

AT&T is providing what it says is an application-sensitive, high-speed managed Ethernet LAN to connect production plants, data centers and corporate offices in Germany. The telco is also providing SCHOTT its AT&T Connect Unified Communications-based conferencing tool, which it says will enable 1,000 employees to connect with their customers.

The network services will also be integrated into a recent company SCHOTT purchased in Japan.

Like its recent 200-site IP-VPN contract with Frankfurt-based Hilti, this latest win is another situation where AT&T must handle the needs of multinational corporation (MNC) customers. One of the major trends that these wins also illustrate is the growing need to provide Ethernet-based access to VPN and cloud-based UC services.
