Attack of the network zombies

The zombie attacks are increasing, and we must remain vigilant. This is no line from a cheapo horror movie; it's for real. Security vendor Arbor Networks unveiled its most recent Worldwide Infrastructure Security Report, an annual survey of service providers about their top security concerns, and 60 percent of respondents said that attacks from zombie computers (which attack collectively as botnets) are either a primary or secondary security concern.

While many service providers have increased their efforts to fight off all kinds of network security attacks, and also have begun to share more information about their own attacks for the good of the industry, the botnet zombies also have become more adaptable and crafty about penetrating a network to gain information that can be used to launch a broader attack.
