Australian competitor carriers rail against NBN Co.'s pricing structure

NBN Co.'s plan to charge the same for fiber-based broadband services in both rural and urban areas may help to ensure consistent pricing for end-users, but alternative providers AAPT and Optus aren't happy with its proposed plans, TeleGeography reports.

At issue is the NBN Co.'s proposal to offer only 14 network connection points where competitive carriers could connect into its network and provide service to their end customers.

AAPT said that NBN Co.'s proposed structure "will result in significant stranding of the assets of many access seekers, which could conceivably lead to a series of compensation claims."

Likewise, Optus believes that all NBN Co. needs to do is simply charge any retail service provide the same connection price regardless of location.
