Bresnan puts DOCSIS 3.0 foundation in place

Tools

Bresnan Communications' announcement to leverage ARRIS' DOCSIS 3.0 C4 platform shows that Comcast and Cox aren't the only cable operators in the DOCSIS 3.0 house. The mid-sized northwestern MSO will leverage the new CMTS platform to offer high speed data, VoIP and business services in its four main markets: Kalispell and Helena, Mont., and Gillette and Casper, Wyo. The C4 system will handle both upstream and downstream capacity from one device.

"We are deploying a next generation CMTS platform that is capable of supporting DOCSIS 3.0 to deliver the best possible quality of experience to our customers," said Pragash Pillai, Bresnan VP of Engineering and Technology, in a release.

However, a Cable Digital News article points out that in its Billings and Missoula, Mont., markets Bresnan will leverage Cisco's uBR10012 CMTS to handle upstream network capacity and Harmonic NSG 9000 edge QAM devices to handle downstream capacity. And while Bresnan has the infrastructure in place to deliver DOCSIS 3.0 services, it has not given any specific timeline when it will roll out these services.
