BT Business scores big with the BBC

BT Business has found a new proof point of its network's worth in the BBC--Peel Media awarded the U.K. incumbent operator a five-year communications and IT contract for its MediaCityUK development in Salford, Greater Manchester.

Set to house many of the BBC's operations when they move them to the North, this new facility will provide network connectivity and related services to a number of high profile tenants including Northwest Vision and Media and The University of Salford. Serving as the foundation to deliver voice, data, and wireless services, BT will deploy a 20 million meter optical network into the new site.

Work on the new network will begin later this year, while the first phase of the $814 million complex will open for business in 2011.
