BT to debut 110 Mbps wholesale FTTX service

BT Openreach (NYSE: BT) starting this upcoming March, will offer a 110 Mbps Internet service to its wholesale customer base.

BT, reports ISPreview, will add the new service to its Generic Ethernet Access Fiber to the Premises (GEA-FTTP) product set. Openreach customers will be able to get 110 peak downstream rates in addition to a 20 Mbps prioritized downstream with 15 Mbps upstream.

ISP customers such as TalkTalk that purchase the new standalone service, according to initial pricing indications, will have to pay $411 for a line rental per year or GBP157.80 ($247) if it's combined with a copper voice service.

The 110 Mbps service is being announced not long after Ofcom dictated that BT has to open up its physical network infrastructure, including its underground cable ducts and telephone poles so they can build their own last mile fiber networks.
