BT defends PBT costs

Tools

BT, probably the leading carrier proponent of provider backbone transport technology, rebuffed reports that it was discovering unexpected costs and otherwise having trouble with its initial PBT deployments. PBT is a fairly controversial carrier Ethernet innovation challenging the dominance of transport-multiprotocol label switching. A handful of carriers are supporting it, but BT's backing and it's early deployments are being closely monitored by carriers still on the sidelines of the PBT/T-MPLS debate. Cost effectiveness is supposed to be one of PBT's significant advantages over T-MPLS, so any early field experience disputing this understanding could prove damaging to the PBT outlook.
