BT employs Check Point to deliver embedded cloud firewall services

BT (NYSE: BT) has established an agreement with Check Point Software to embed new security elements into its network, furthering BT's mark on the managed cloud security segment.

The new embedded Cloud Firewall services are part of a broader set of hosted security solutions BT is deploying across its global network to deliver on its "cloud of clouds" vision it announced in April.

A key point of the service is to accommodate large enterprises' move to put more  applications and workloads into a mix of private, public and hybrid clouds, a transition that will require secure access over a mix of dedicated and public networks.

In order to protect BT customers' boundaries with the Internet, the service provider is deploying additional managed security services at its global Internet gateways. These managed security services are based on Check Point's 13500 series firewall technology.

BT is also working to improve its cloud service integration capabilities by enhancing the internet breakout from its global network at global gateways.

Each of these gateways are located at the world's key Internet peering locations. These breakouts can be deployed on either a regional basis, which can provide general Internet cloud facilities, or on an optimized basis, where traffic is kept on-net and breakout to the internet occurs closer to the traffic's destination at specific cloud locations.

BT Global Services offers the Embedded Cloud Firewall service worldwide as a standard solution.
