BT plans initial FTTH roll-out

Tools

Looking to help the U.K. catch up to countries where fiber-to-the-home is quickly becoming the norm for broadband connections, BT Openreach is building an FTTH network at a development of 10,000 new homes at Ebbsfleet in Kent. The wholesale arm of BT will then offer the network to its retail sibling and other retail carriers.

The network should be service-ready by August, and will support service plans up to and including 100 Mb/s, which is about five times faster than current broadband offerings in the U.K. market.
