BT Vows to disconnect downloaders

The U.K.'s largest broadband provider has decided to get tough-very tough-with P2P downoaders, threatening to disconnect subscribers if they share copyrighted music over the Internet, reports The Register.

The Register said BT emailed one of its four million retail broadband customers, accusing her of illegally downloading a copyright song from an open source file sharing program and included evidence gathered by the British Phonographic Industry, which represents the interests of British record companies.

BPI has formed partnerships with major ISPs like BT and Virgin Media to cut down on the number of infringing music copyright cases.
