BT Wholesale serves up enhanced Global IP Exchange service
BT (NYSE: BT) is enhancing its Global IP Interconnect service for its UK and global wholesale wireline, wireless, VoIP providers and alternative providers that need global voice connectivity.
Serving wireline and wireless customers in over 170 countries, the service provider will deploy GENBAND's S3TM Intelligent Session Border Controllers, G9TM Converged Media Gateways and C3TM Gateway Controllers providing access to the PSTN while ensuring secure IP interconnects and enabling transcoding.
In aggregate, the three-piece solution set can interface with NetNumber's Titan centralized routing solution to make optimal route decisions and to apply policies to ensure route quality and profitability.
BT will use the equipment for two purposes: delivering SIP-based interconnection services for other global Tier 1 and Tier 2 service providers and supporting global interconnect and IDD.
Trevor Wyatt, BT Director of Strategic Voice Platforms, said GENBAND will enable it to "support new innovative offerings for BT's Tier 1 and Tier 2 carriers, while reducing network costs, expanding markets and interworking with the growing volume of peering and managed interconnect services."
Securing a customer win with BT provides GENBAND with another point of validation in the competitive VoIP and IMS equipment market.
Infonetics noted in its "Service Provider VoIP and IMS Equipment and Subscribers" report that the overall market segment saw a 2 percent decline due to slowing sales of legacy trunk media gateway and softswitches. GENBAND, according to the report, was the second vendor to see the growth in the segment, trailing only Huawei.
