Cable bundles, industry consolidation and OTT dominated INTX 2015's headlines

Now that the INTX 2015 is over, FierceCable is taking a look at the dominant themes of the show.

One of the controversial trends that emerged during the show was the so-called cable skinny channel bundle that allows users to pick and choose the content they want for a much lower price than a traditional video service package. Not surprisingly, cable operators are concerned that if a large amount of customers choose these offerings, it could cut into their revenues.

No less important was the consolidation trend and its potential effect on the cable industry. Having failed to acquire fellow cable operator Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC), Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA) executives emphasized the theme that "we're moving on."

While OTT video players like HBO Now, Hulu, Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) and Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) were a big part of discussions on the show floor, FierceCable noted that it was unclear how the cable industry plans to react to the incursion of Internet video.
