CableLabs issues 'TV Everywhere' RFI

Tools

On the heels of SCTE's Cable-Tec Expo, CableLabs has put forth an RFI to the cable and telecom community to develop a common technical approach for the TV Everywhere concept.

With a deadline set for December 11th, CableLabs wants respective industry vendors to give the industry group and its cable provider members a way to define the technical requirements and architecture for a TV Everywhere rollout that incorporates online video with subscription cable TV while including multiple content owners and multichannel video programming distributors.

The cable industry is already making progress with TV Everywhere. Leading the TV Everywhere charge is Comcast, which is bringing its TV Everywhere, On Demand online trial to about 10,000 customers. Not far behind Comcast is Time Warner Cable, which is a trialing TV Everywhere capability with 300 users. Time Warner said it expects to expand this trial eventually to serve 6,000 users.
