Cablevision Mexico enters the 100G game with Alcatel-Lucent

Cablevision Mexico, one of Mexico's largest cable MSOs, has employed Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) for a new 100G optical network supporting its growing base of consumer and business applications.

The services Cablevision Mexico hopes to offer over its network--to compete with the likes of incumbent Telmex and a growing base of competitive providers--include high-definition streaming video and 100 Mbps broadband data.

In this project, the cable operator will deploy the 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS), which supports 100G coherent optical technology.

Besides giving it the headroom for bandwidth-hungry services, Israel Madiedo, CTO Telecom at Cablevision, said that "this deployment in Mexico of 100G technology will help us make our network more environmentally sustainable by reducing energy consumption on the network quite dramatically."

For Alcatel-Lucent, this latest win with one of Mexico's largest cable MSOs is another proof point it can show in its ability to win 100G deployments as it targets other opportunities in Mexico and other major growth areas in the Latin American market.
