Calix wins trio of new broadband stimulus contracts in Kansas

Calix (NYSE: CALX) continues to rack up points on its broadband stimulus deployment chart with three new wins from broadband stimulus recipients in Kansas.

H&B Communications, Inc. (H&B), JBN Telephone Company, Inc. (JBN), and Home Communications, Inc. (HCI) have all chosen Calix's Ethernet eXtensible Architecture (EXA) Powered Calix access platforms and the 700GE/GX family of optical network terminals (ONTs) to deliver broadband services to their rural-based customers.

Each of these service providers have specific initiatives the Calix gear will drive:

  • H&B Communications: H&B will leverage its $8.2 million award, which consists of a $4.6 million grant, a $2 million loan, and $1.6 million of private investment to provide IPTV, broadband data, and voice services to about 2000 rural subscribers in the areas surrounding Claflin and Ellinwood, Kansas. In this deployment it will leverage Calix's E7-2 ESAPs with 10GE transport services will interconnect with a 10GE ring provided by existing C7 MSAPs to provide high-capacity connectivity across the entire H&B network.
  • JBN Telephone Company: JBN will leverage $3.3 million award, which consists of a $2.3 million grant and a $1 million loan, to build an advanced GPON infrastructure to six rural communities. It will deploy Calix's C7 MSAPs at each exchange that will be connected via a 10GE ring for high capacity broadband transport, and each premise will leverage Calix ONTs.
  • Home Communications Inc.: HCI will use its $2 million broadband stimulus award, which includes a $1.4 million grant and a $601,464 loan to provide radio frequency (RF) video overlay, broadband data access, and voice services to rural subscribers throughout its Canton exchange.

In Kansas alone, Calix has won contracts to supply its products to seven projects, totaling approximately $129 million in overall funds.

To date, Calix has won 54 contracts to supply its gear to service providers building out new "last mile" and "middle mile" networks that have received broadband stimulus grants.
