CARFAX chooses CyrusOne as data storage center

CARFAX, a company that provides background information about vehicles for potential buyers, announced Thursday that it has chosen a data center owned by Cincinnati Bell's (NYSE: CBB) CyrusOne (Nasdaq: CONE) to store the company's 11 billion vehicle history records.

The "Massively Modular" facility in Carrollton, Texas, will be home to "reports used by thousands of businesses, car dealers, law enforcement groups, service providers, government entities, and millions of consumers to make informed purchase decisions," according to a press release from CyrusOne.

The vehicle history provider said one important factor in its choice was the Carrollton facility's proximity to the CARFAX business. In addition, CARFAX said it was impressed by the "accessibility and interconnectedness of CyrusOne's footprint overall."

"We knew we wanted a data center partner so we could focus more of our attention on our core business," said Joedy Lenz, vice president and chief technology officer of CARFAX. "CyrusOne built a team to support us that is knowledgeable, helpful, and responsive."

Dottie Spruce, EVP of sales at CyrusOne, added, "Our data centers are top tier and located where our customers want to be, but the appreciation we hear from CARFAX regarding our customer service is what really makes us unique."

This announcement comes on the heels of Cincinnati Bell's announcement that it will be restructuring its management team. Ted Torbeck has been named the new CEO and a member of the board of directors, while Jack Cassidy has been appointed as vice chairman of the board.

Cassidy, who has been with Cincinnati Bell for 17 years, was instrumental in the company's acquisition of CyrusOne in 2010, a move that has proved lucrative as the data center services provider has consistently performed well.
