Carrier Ethernet digs deeper

A new chip developer claiming to incorporate carrier-grade Ethernet requirements at the chip level has debuted. Lightstorm Networks, based in Waltham, Mass., with an R&D center in Ireland, is getting in on the Carrier Ethernet game a bit late, but the company says previous semiconductor and equipment efforts in the market have focused on adapting enterprise gear to the carrier sector, rather than building carrier gear from the chip level up.
