Cavalier eyes Baltimore TV franchise

Independent telco Cavalier Telephone, based in Richmond, Va., is seeking to become the third TV service provider (after Comcast and Verizon) in the Baltimore market. Cavalier was among the first U.S. telcos to roll out TV services in its home market, beating Verizon to the punch by leasing lines from the ILEC and delivering cable-like TV over DSL.

It plans to do the same in Baltimore if its application is approved by local authorities. If it does, Baltimore will become an interesting test case for what happens when a wealth of TV provider choices become available to consumers.
