Cbeyond (Nasdaq: CBEY), a competitive cloud provider, on Monday announced that its TotalCloud Phone System is now generally available for U.S.-based business customers.

Targeting multisite businesses that have a mix of on-site office, remote and mobile employees, Cbeyond's TotalCloud Phone system can route and prioritize voice traffic via its private IP-network linked to a secure data center.

Such a service could provide a business continuity element for businesses that may be affected by a weather-related in that their employees could continue to communicate regardless of their location.

One of the initial benefits of this service is the cost savings. By using this service an SMB no longer has to deal with the expense and hassle of maintaining a traditional on-premise PBX phone system.

Besides cost savings, the new service provides users with a number of new productivity enhancing features such as mobile phone integration, call filtering, online feature management and click-to-dial using Microsoft Outlook. In addition, customers can share data and voice applications across multiple business locations and with employees working remotely.

Already, the new service has been employed by Texas-based American Innovations (AI), who has been using Cbeyond's services for over 10 years.

Randall Chance, vice president of information technologies, American Innovations, said "We were able to increase bandwidth and fully support remote workers in Arizona, Colorado and Texas without having to make a significant capital outlay."

Cbeyond's latest cloud-based voice service is part of the company's ongoing effort to provide higher bandwidth services to its customer base.

Part of that effort has driven it to start putting together a new fiber-based network that enables it to provide higher speed fiber-based access capabilities of 10-100 Mbps.
