Cbeyond serves up a new managed data center service

Cbeyond (Nasdaq: CBEY), a growing competitive telco serving the small to medium sized business (SMB) market, on Monday launched its new TotalCloud Data Center managed service.

The TotalCloud service is ideal for the SMB market as Cbeyond not only provides customers access to cloud services, but also takes on the responsibility of purchasing, configuring, installing and managing servers. These are functions that this segment typically does not have the in-house resources or expertise to support themselves.

Built on Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V platform, the new service offers customers a mix of storage and security services to this segment.

Featuring a mix of managed and monitored security features, backup services and 24x7 infrastructure monitoring and support, the service is available public and private formats depending on a customer's specific security needs.

A key element of the new service is flexibility.

Given the diverse nature of the SMB segment, the new service allows customers to adjust storage, security, and processing power as their own business and operating requirements change. Other features include load balancing, private firewalls and dedicated VLANs.

The debut of the TotalCloud Data Center managed service comes at a time when Cbeyond is moving to offer fiber-based 10 Mbps connections to its customer base to support these bandwidth demanding services.
