CenturyLink adds DirecTV satellite service to video lineup

CenturyLink (NYSE: CTL) has opted to put DirecTV (Nasdaq: DTV) into its television lineup, a move that replaces its ongoing relationship with Dish Network (Nasdaq: DISH).

Other than noting that it has an exclusive relationship, DirecTV would not disclose financial terms of the reseller agreement. While this marketing agreement is new, CenturyLink and DirecTV worked under the former CenturyTel since 2005.

At the time of writing, neither CenturyLink nor DirecTV could be reached for comment on the new agreement.

Satellite service is just one of three options that CenturyLink is using to deliver video. The service provider not only offers Over the Top (OTT) Internet-based services and it has been rolling out IPTV over DSL services in select markets. However, it's not clear what CenturyLink's television strategy will evolve when it wraps up its acquisition of Qwest (NYSE: Q) next year.
