CenturyLink equips Marine Corps with managed VPN, point-to-point circuits

CenturyLink has strengthened its bond with the Marine Corps by winning a new contract with the military branch's Community Services (MCCS), where it will build a virtual private network (VPN).

This is a one-year contract that includes four one-year options and is worth up to $3.5 million over the next five years.

In tandem with the VPN services, CenturyLink will also provide Internet and point-to-point circuits connecting 37 Marine Corps locations across the U.S.

The MCCS system, which generates more than $1 billion in annual sales from a wide variety of business operations, will use the network to support its quality-of-life services and programs to members of the Marine Corps and their families.

CenturyLink and the Marines have had a long-standing relationship. Its latest pact with the MCCS system follows a contract it won in March to provide voice, data network and telecommunications infrastructure services to the Marine Corps Combat Development Command in Quantico and the Marine Corps Barracks in Washington, D.C., that could be worth up to $8.5 million over the next two years.
