CenturyLink puts Calix's GPON backhaul to the test
CenturyLink has been expanding its fiber-based mobile backhaul service capabilities diligently, and now it's furthering that effort by deploying Calix's latest GPON optical network terminals (ONT). Set to be deployed throughout its 33-state footprint--one that encompasses rural communities as well as large metro areas such as Orlando, Fla., and Las Vegas, Nev., CenturyLink said these ONTs can be used in tandem with its installed base of Calix C7 platforms.
CenturyLink will use Calix's GPON- based ONTs to enable its wireless operator customers to keep up with their customers' ongoing need for bandwidth intensive mobile voice, data and video services, with a solution that can address today's multi-T1 and emerging Gigabit Ethernet-based service needs. In addition, CenturyLink wants to be prepared with backhaul capabilities that will meet LTE's 100 Mbps wireless backhaul requirements.
