CenturyLink, Savvis merger complete

CenturyLink added another piece to its acquisition puzzle on Friday, officially completing its merger with managed services provider Savvis.

The Internet hosting and managed services business will operate under the Savvis brand for the near future. Savvis CEO Jim Ousley will remain at the helm as CenturyLink integrates its own hosting business and colocation services with those of Savvis.

The merger looks to be a smart move by a ILEC that has jumped well outside its old rural telephone company boundaries to compete with Tier 1 operators like AT&T and Verizon. Acquiring Savvis adds not only another page to CenturyLink's portfolio of assets but gives it another wing in its continuing drive toward profits.
