CES: Vonage, Skype step up efforts

While Microsoft, Comcast and others made a big splash at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, VoIP service providers Vonage and Skype were not to be out-done, despite what has been a difficult preceding year for both companies.

Vonage announced at the show its new V-Portal gadget, which is targeted at simplifying service activation and trouble-shooting for customers, functions that reflect Vonage's increased focus on customer service. Meanwhile, Skype announced functionality with Sony's PlayStation Portable, and other moves.
