Charter-TWC will become a 'broadband duopoly,' says Bernie Sanders, other lawmakers
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has joined Senator Al Franken and three other U.S. Senators in making the argument that if Charter Communications (NASDAQ: CHTR) is successful in purchasing Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) and Bright House it will create a "broadband duopoly," giving the new company too much control of the U.S. broadband market.
Joining Franken and Sanders are Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.). The group of lawmakers sent a letter to FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler and Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who are overseeing the respective merger review processes on behalf of the FCC and Justice Department.
