China Telecom tests the 100 Gbps optical waters

Looking forward to the next stage of its long haul transmission network evolution, China Telecom (NYSE: CHA) is jumping on the 100 Gbps WDM ultra long haul optical train.

In conjunction with Huawei and Corning (NYSE: GLW), China Telecom has completed what it says is China's first ultra long haul 100 transmission test over a 3,000 km terrestrial fiber network.

For the 100 Gbps test, China Telecom tested Huawei's OSN 8800 platform and Corning's SMF-28 ULL (ultra-low-loss) fiber.

Similar to other deployments and tests of 100 Gbps WDM, China Telecom tested equipment based on coherent polarisation multiplexed quadrature phase-shift keying (PM-QPSK) technology. In addition, China Telecom leveraged C-band 50 GHz spacing and hybrid 100/40G transmission.
