Cincinnati Bell to begin offering energy services

Cincinnati Bell (NYSE: CBB) is making a move to sell electric services to its residential customer base through its new subsidiary Cincinnati Bell Energy.

Through a partnership with Viridian Energy, a Connecticut-based renewable energy supplier, Cincinnati Bell will deliver electric service to residential customers in its southwest territory. Customers will now be able to bundle their energy services along with TV, Internet and phone on one bill.

It appears that Cincinnati Bell's energy rates are competitive with area energy supplier Duke. According to one report, their rate is around 30 percent less than Duke's regulated price of 8.24 cents per kw hour.

Paving the way for the new service is a new Ohio state electric deregulation law that seperates generation charges from distribution charges on the customer's bill.
