Cincinnati Bell opens cyber security center, targets business customer needs

Cincinnati Bell's (NYSE: CBB) CBTS business services subsidiary is giving its business customers another tool to thwart cyber attacks with the debut of its Threat Intelligence Center in Cincinnati.

This new center, which is staffed with security experts that have experience in the military, financial, manufacturing and defense industries, will leverage its Intelligent Analysis and Adaptive Defense process.

A key focus of the new center is to proactively seek out and adapt to issues as they arise, particularly those initiated through e-mail phishing where an e-mail can inject a hacker's bad code into a computer network. This is important as the attacks mutate to account for security changes.

"We help our customers not only detect attacks but also learn from them to prevent future attacks to their data and systems," said Brian Minick, vice president of CBTS Advanced Cyber Security.

Complementing the new Threat Intelligence Center, CBTS' Advanced Cyber Security Product Team launched its new E-mail Security tool, which it said will help defend customer data and provide a rich source of information to further enhance customers' data security.

Enhancing its security product suite comes at a time when Cincinnati Bell continues to see gains in its business segment.

While it won't announce its Q4 2013 earnings until Feb. 20, the service provider reported in Q3 2013 it generated $65 million in strategic business service revenues, up 9 percent from Q4 2012. In addition, it reported that managed VoIP products grew 16 percent, or $2 million, while IT Managed and Professional Services grew 3 percent, or $1 million.
