Cincinnati Bell taps ARRIS for its TV Everywhere service

Cincinnati Bell has jumped into the TV Everywhere fray, serving up the app for its growing Fioptics TV service that it says will allow existing and new customers access to video streaming services throughout their home.

Serving as the foundation for the new service is ARRIS' Whole Home Solution Mobile and SecureMedia technologies.

ARRIS' Whole Home Solution Mobile provides customers a platform to use their mobile smartphone or tablet device that's integrated with Cincinnati Bell's existing back-office systems. Customers using the Fioptics TV Everywhere service will get a device-specific service that includes future-ready features that are converged into a single, intuitive interface.

While the TV Everywhere concept is still an emerging opportunity, it appears to be something that consumers want.

According to an ARRIS Consumer Entertainment Index, 41 percent of North American tablet owners and 38 percent of smartphone owners use their devices to view content in the bedroom.

Offering this capability in tandem with its higher speed 100 Mbps and its recent 1 Gbps launch will enable Cincinnati Bell to further its bond with its Fioptics customers.

During the second quarter, the service provider reported that it added 6,700 Fioptics Internet subscribers and 5,000 Fioptics video subscribers, ending the quarter with a total of 98,300 and 82,500 subscribers, respectively.
