Cincinnati Bell's subsidiary CyrusOne to build a new data center facility

Cincinnati Bell's (NYSE: CBB) data center CyrusOne subsidiary continues to ramp up its data center capabilities with plans to build a 72,000 square foot data center in Austin, Texas.

The new build is part of the service provider's long-term data center expansion plan that could include the build out of up to 288,000 square feet of additional data center space on its campus. Set to begin this month, the new data center facility will be built in four phases.

When the new facility is complete it will complement CyrusOne's 50,000 square foot data center that it previously opened in the fall of 2009.

David Ferdman, CEO of CyrusOne said in a Data Center Knowledge that "We've seen a multitude of companies re-evaluating their data center colocation needs and moving to the Austin area."

Although CyrusOne was acquired by Cincinnati Bell last year, it continues to operate as a standalone company that has the luxury of a parent that has deeper pockets to fund both domestic and even international network expansions into areas like London.

This expansion reflects the overall notion that data center services and related cloud services are becoming a major focus for wireline operators like Cincinnati Bell trying to offset declines in traditional landline voice and legacy data services.
