Cisco clarifies set-top box stance

Company still 'committed' to producing set-tops

Despite comments made by Cisco's (Nasdaq: CSCO) Chairman and CEO John Chambers, who told analysts last week that the company was "walking away" from very low margin set-top boxes, the vendor says it's still committed to producing set-top boxes for the cable consumer segment. Joe Chow, vice president and general manager of Cisco's Connected Devices business unit, said in a blog entry that while the vendor is going to walk away from lower margin set-top box opportunities, it has not abandoned set-tops as a business. Chow wrote in the blog, "Traditional video set-tops are transforming into intelligent video and data gateways with more advanced software features and services." Article
