Cisco integrates DPI, SBC in new router

Tools

Cisco Systems has unveiled a new aggregation services router for carrier networks or large enterprise networks that embeds several trendy functions, including deep packet inspection (DPI) technology, a session border controller, and a firewall technology, into a centralized processor. The result is a box with a smaller footprint and lower power requirements than previous edge routers, the company said. The new router also uses a QuantumFlow chip on which carriers can create and control their own applications. Cisco competitor Juniper recently announced a separate router control plane enabling carriers to do the same thing.
