Cologix adds Allied Fiber's dark fiber to its Jacksonville, Fla., meet-me room

Cologix has added dark fiber provider Allied Fiber to its growing list of service provider partners that have established a point of presence (PoP) at its Jacksonville, Fla., data center.

Allied Fiber, which provides network-neutral colocation and dark-fiber to service providers and enterprises, recently announced that its 360-mile, 528-fiber-count southeast Florida segment is officially Ready for Service (RFS).

The first segment connects the Network Access Point (NAP) of the Americas in Miami to Cologix's Jacksonville data center and Meet-Me Room (JAX 1) in the 421 West Church Street carrier hotel. Cologix entered the Jacksonville market when it acquired the JAX Meet-Me Room (JMMR) last September.

Besides Allied Fiber, Cologix's customers can interconnect with more than 20 network providers, including recent entrants such as Telia Sonera and Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA).

One of the key attractions of Cologix's Meet-Me-Room location in Jacksonville is it can provide another connection option into the growing Latin American market.

The company claims that the combination of new subsea cables and reduced barriers to extend networks creates "viable alternatives that are less expensive and risky than the traditional paradigm for connecting to South America."
