Cologix lights up new data center, interconnect hub in Montreal

Cologix is continuing its drive into Canada's data center market by completing Phase 1 of its 26,000 square foot expansion on 1155 University Street in downtown Montreal.

This is the seventh data center Cologix has opened in Montreal and complements the existing carrier hotel it already has built at 1250 Rene Levesque West, which is located nearby.

Given the close proximity of these two facilities, a dedicated fiber ring will enable customers at both of these locations to interconnect directly with one another while creating a single Meet-Me-Room supporting over 100,000 square feet of colocation space.

When the second and final phase of the buildout is completed this year, the MTL 7 at 1155 University Street will house over 450 cabinets.

The University Street project is part of a broader initiative to expand its data center space throughout Canada. In addition to Montreal, the service provider plans to open a 15,000 square foot data center in downtown Vancouver at West Pender Street. Similar to the University Street project, the Vancouver center will have a direct connection to its 555 W. Hastings data center.

Its latest data center facility expansion in Montreal and in Minnesota last week reflects a year of ongoing expansion for Cologix.

Having increased its credit facility to $165 million in December, which it said will be used for "ongoing acquisition and expansion activities," this expansion trend will likely continue throughout 2014 in both Canada and the United States.
