Comcast beefs up consumer data security with Symantec pact

Comcast is not taking any chances that a virus from an unsuspecting consumer could infect its network so it's now offering Norton's Security Suite free for download to its residential and business data subscribers. Participating subscribers will have a software suite that will protect their PCs from viruses, spyware, worms, Trojans and identity theft, in addition to parental controls. Apple owners will get Norton Internet Security for Mac.

The free security offering follows the debut of Comcast's Constant Guard Security Initiative, which will alert Comcast's users if there's a virus or bot present on their personal computers. In the event that Comcast finds an infection on a user's PC it will direct them to the Anti-Virus Center to get instructions on how they can get rid of the virus or bot.
