Comcast climbs telco charts

Cable TV giant Comcast is scheduled to report third-quarter earnings this Thursday, and along with that will report the latest tally of subscribers to its residential telephone service. That VoIP service had garnered about 3 million subscriber as of the second quarter this year, and if growth continues to be strong, Comcast could break into the ranks of the top four voice providers in the country soon (Embarq currently is No. 4, with about 4.4 million as of the second quarter).

Maybe being a voice leader isn't as important in the age of the triple play bundle as it once was, but such a move by a cable TV company is a historic breakthrough and certainly indicative of overall broadband success.
