Comcast expands its California DOCSIS 3.0 presence

Tools

Comcast's DOCSIS 3.0 train continues to roll on as the MSO announced that it will bring its wideband services to a number of new California markets. Included in this latest push are Fresno, Merced, Modesto, Stockton, Tracy, Tulare, and Visalia in addition to Santa Barbara County. This latest service launch follows Comcast's earlier DOCSIS 3.0 roll outs in its San Francisco Bay Area and Monterey-Salinas areas.

Business and residential customers will be able to access various price and speed tiers. Residential customers will be able to access two DOCSIS 3.0 product tiers: Extreme 50 and Ultra. With the Extreme 50 product, residential users can get up to 50 Mbps/10 Mbps speeds of $99.95 a month, while the lower-tier Ultra product will offer 22 Mbps/5 Mbps speeds at $62.95 a month.

Just the same, business customers will also be able to access three service tiers: Deluxe, Starter and Premium. Deluxe, the highest business tier, will provide business customers 50 Mbps/10 Mbps for $189.95 a month with various features and IT support. Any existing business customers will get a complimentary speed boost of up to 12 Mbps/2Mbps. Comcast's Premium Tier will offer 22 Mbps/5 Mbps for $99.95 a month.

Out of the largest tier one cable MSOs, Comcast has set one of the most aggressive DOCSIS 3.0 rollout strategies with a goal of reaching 80 percent penetration in its markets by the end of this year.
