Comcast extends service reach with iPhone app

Tools

Comcast continues to be hot on the idea of connecting various devices to its Smart Zone Communications Center service. Its latest target appears to be the iPhone. Comcast has introduced a free application that lets customers get access to Comcast services, including a unified inbox, visual voice mail, address book synchronization and movie trailers from its On Demand service.

To access the service, users with a Comcast.net User ID can download the free application and have access to their respective inbox and address books, along with access to the SmartZone Communications Center. However, a Light Reading report points out that the new service does not enable users to remotely program their DVRs. Not surprisingly, all the MSO would say when asked about if it will provide a remote DVR capability was that it could be part of a ‘future release' of the service.
