CONFIRMED: SuperComm moves to Fall '09
Fierce has confirmed SuperComm will be moving dates - but not places -- from its June time slot to October. The telecommunications event is being moved to October 21-23 and will remain in McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill.
"As the broadband stimulus package comes out, we anticipate growth in the telecommunications industry," said SuperComm event manager Ron Matthews. "We want to take advantage of newer opportunities out of this and find the opportunities that are coming out of it."
A formal press release is expected out shortly to announce the date change and the movement to a new management team. EXPO COMM Events, the joint venture between E.J. Krause & Associates, Inc. and Reed Exhibitions, will be taking over management of the SuperComm show. EXPO COMM runs over 500 technology events around the world.
Matthews said bringing in EXPO COMM to run SuperComm would deliver stability and value, and partners already involved with the show shouldn't worry. "We've remained committed to the partners we have, we want to retain the partners we have, we're just shifting some dates and times," he said. "We'll have some new discussions [to add partners] as well."
Moving forward, Matthews anticipated keeping SuperComm as a fall show.

We too are victims of the non-refundable tickets. This is an outrage. How dare they put information out to the world and then so selfishly change it beacuse the US has economic problems. The rest of the world doesn't even care.
For certain, changing the dates of the event by 4 months voids your space contract. If show management tries to hold exhibitors responsible for their original contracts - that would be beyond belief.
Sad,, but kinda saw it coming. A last ditch effort for a show that is failing badly, with only about 1/2 its floor space sold,, I think postponing will be the final straw and this show will fail, or continue in a very small way relative to what it was,,, We are choosing to play a wait and see, but likely will drop out if it goes as I suspect. This last minute "postponement" is committing show suicide IMO,,, The blood is in the water now, I doubt many will rush in to reserve booths,,, We too will have a few flights that will have to be cancelled and re-used within a year. The good news; I suspect this postponement with void the space contracts, have to check on that.
Sure, Matthews, "just shifting some dates and times." Your little shift just cost me and my business about half of out travel budget for 2009. Small businesses on shoestring budgets purchase non-refundable travel tickets well in advance to get lower prices so we can remain in business. While you run damage control for a show that couldn't fill the vendor slots for June, don't worry about us -- blame the economy. This show hasn't had it's act together in years, and it appears nothing is changing. Supercomm is doomed, and with it's "management team" making decisions like this one just 90 days out, failure should be your only option. I hope the press eats you alive this time!
