Could FCC chief be approved today?
After Julius Genachowski, President Obama's nominee for Federal Communications Commission Chairman, appeared at a Senate Commerce Committee nomination hearing yesterday, there were reports that he could be confirmed as the new FCC chief as early as today. That would be an unexpected but welcome change from what many have perceived could be a weeks-long wait for Genachowski to be approved for the job.
The Senate Committee certainly wasted no time telling Genachowski during the hearing that he will be on the clock to "fix" the FCC, and prove it "is not battered beyond repair," in the words of Committee lead Sen. John Rockefeller (D-W.Va.). Genachowski did not say too much of note relevant to the telecom industry, except that he backs the broadband stimulus plan, and is particularly excited about mobile technology.
