Cox Communications racks up a triple double in Q1

Tools

Cox said it recorded double-digit, year-over-year growth in residential phone, high-speed Internet and digital cable service in its first quarter despite what Cox President Pat Esser described as "intensifying competition and a challenging economy."

The private company declined to say whether it had lost share in basic cable services to telcos, as have many other cable companies.

Cox reported 16 percent in residential telephone subscribers to 2.46 million, and a 10.3 percent growth rate in high-speed Internet residential customers. It also said it grew its digital cable business 10 percent, adding 3.2 million subscribers.

Esser said subscribers to Cox's HD tier grew by more than 50 percent when compared with the first quarter of 2007.
