Dutch service providers continue to advance the fiber to the home (FTTH) market, passing nearly 2 million homes at the end of 2013.

However, according to a Telecompaper's new annual FTTH report, only 656,000 of those lines have actually been activated. This means that overall FTTH network penetration was stable in comparison to the end of 2012 at under 34 percent.

Leading the market was Reggefiber, with 87 percent of homes passed, while CIF reached 10 percent market share during this period.

In terms of regions, Gelderland saw the most growth, with more than 120,000 homes getting access to a FTTH connection.

There were also gains in South Holland, which includes The Hague and Rotterdam, with about 62,000, while Limburg and North Brabant in the south of the country tied for third place, each with just over 50,000 new homes passed.
