Equinix adds GoGrid to its growing Cloud Exchange platform

Equinix continues to ramp up its Cloud Exchange, announcing that it has added GoGrid, a provider of open data services featuring purpose-built infrastructure for big data services.

GoGrid is using the Equinix Cloud Exchange as a means to expand its market reach while offering private connectivity to enterprise customers through a single interconnection.

Under the terms of the agreement, GoGrid will connect its Cloud Bridge solution to the Equinix Cloud Exchange. One of the benefits of GoGrid's Cloud Bridge is it enables customers to reduce costs by allowing them to leverage previously purchased equipment.

"Expanding our relationship with Equinix enables our customers to use our cloud and Big Data solutions in a more secure, predictable, and high-performance manner via the combination of our Cloud Bridge option plugged into the Equinix Cloud Exchange," said Mark Worsey, COO at GoGrid, in a release.

Today, GoGrid is connected to the Equinix Cloud Exchange inside Equinix's International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in Ashburn, Va. It plans future expansion into Europe.

Establishing partnerships with other network and solutions providers is important for Equinix, particularly as it establishes itself as a key player in the cloud services market. Besides GoGrid, the service provider has relationships with Amazon Web Services (AWS) (NASDAQ: AMZN), Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) and tw telecom.

GoGrid is just one of many partnerships that Equinix has struck to extend its service reach. Another new notable partner is Level 3, which established an agreement to connect to Equinix Cloud Exchange into its Cloud Connect Solutions ecosystem out of 80 of Equinix's data center locations.
