Equinix expands New York City presence with new 16,000 sq. foot data center

Equinix is taking charge of the New York City-area data center market opportunity, announcing that it has completed the build out of its NY6 data center.

Located at its campus in Secaucus, New Jersey, Equinix said the new facility will target local financial, media and enterprise companies' colocation needs, and can also offer enterprises with support for data-intensive applications deployed closer to the edge.

The NY6 facility provides over 16,000 square feet of colocation space and 720 cabinets with the opportunity to increase to 33,000 square feet and 1,440 cabinets in future phases.

Over the past 16 years, Equinix has invested nearly $1 billion in the New York and New Jersey area. At full strength, its NY6 facility will drive Equinix's total footprint in this market to over 517,000 square feet of colocation space dispersed over eight facilities.

Today, Equinix's New York data centers serve as the hub for over 750 media and financial services companies and large enterprises. A key customer segment of the company's New York-area facilities is the financial services companies with trading platforms by CBOE and BATS.

The NY6 data center is part of a broader initiative Equinix launched last week to open five new International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers in the coming weeks, an effort that will increase the scale of its IBX platform by more than 10 percent.
